No.1876937, Warrant Officer (Signaller) Douglas Jeremiah John FROST
Aged 21
Medal entitlement not known
40 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Killed in air accident on Thursday, 19th September 1946

This man is not named on the Lode War Memorial, but is placed in the parish on the 2nd World War Book of Remembrance in Ely Cathedral

Douglas Jeremiah John Frost was born Lode in 1925 ( Newmarket Q2-1925 3B:757), son of George Robert and Annie FROST (née NEWMAN), later of Nordelph, Norfolk.
probate gave him as of Bottisham Lode, near Newmarket, father a gardener.

None of them have been identified in the 1939 register.

From 1942 the squadron flew Wellington bombers, converting to Liberators in February 1945 and then to Lancaster Mk7 in January 1946 by which time they were in Egypt.
Warrant Officer Frost was on Lancaster NX690 which is listed as having 25 on board. They were all from either 37, 40 or 70 squadron.
It was en route from RAF St Mawgan in Cornwall to Cairo-Almaza, Egypt when it crashed at Homs, just east of Tripoli in Libya (believed to have been struck by lightning). All on board were killed.

From the details available it appears it was a 40 squadron aircraft, transporting 2 other Lancasters crews from UK to Egypt. It has so far been impossible to ascertain the precise crew details
